Smartphones - Beyond Voice to Information and Entertainment

Posted on Monday 25 August 2008

Investments in shares of wireless technology companies and wireless service providers have been particularly profitable in the post-dot com era. The wireless industry is in a sweet spot of the technology space. Bountiful business opportunities exist as wireless usage continues to increase in both developed and emerging markets. And driving this usage higher are new products such as smartphones whose capabilities are being augmented by the deployment of third generation (3G) wireless networks.

Feature-Rich Smartphones.

Smartphones are more than mobile phones. A smartphone is a mobile phone with built-in functions of a personal digital assistant. Smartphones pack a diverse range of features and functionalities into the handset that makes them a mobile information center and entertainment device for the user.

Smartphones commonly include features such as web browsing, e-mail, and multimedia capabilities. Certain models have enough horse power to run complex software applications such as enterprise customer relationship software and car navigation programs.

A full-featured QWERTY-type keyboard, MP3 player, and Geo Positioning Systems capability are becoming common among higher-end smartphones. Instant messaging is a cool feature making its way into the mainstream.

Smartphones, A Growing Segment of the Handset Market.

Smartphones represent a small, yet rapidly growing, segment of the handset market. According to Strategy Analytics, smartphone sales at 17.5 million units in 2004 accounted for 3% of the worldwide sales of 684 million handsets. However, this represents a significant jump from the 8.2 million units sold in 2003.

The demand for smartphones is projected to grow rapidly in the coming years. By 2009, the number of smartphone units sold is estimated to reach 125 million or 16% of total handset sales worldwide. This implies a 48% compound annual growth rate in smartphone unit shipments over the 2004-2009 period.

Smartphone Early Adoption Led by Asia and Europe.

Adoption of smartphones has been particularly rapid in Asia and Europe. The aggressive deployment of advanced wireless networks in these regions has encouraged early adoption of smartphones.

The Asia Pacific region currently accounts for about 37% of global smartphone sales with South Korea and Japan being leaders in smartphone usage. The European market accounts for 27% of global smartphone sales. Analysts expect smartphone sales in Europe to exceed sales in the Asian market in the coming years. North America’s market share in smartphone sales was expected to reach 25% by the end of 2004.

Nokia, the 800 lb. Gorilla of Smartphones.

Nokia (NYSE: NOK) is by far the dominant global smartphone manufacturer. The Finnish company is currently estimated to command half to two-thirds share of the global smartphone market.

Nokia recently introduced its feature-rich Nokia 7710 smartphone in Europe and Africa. The wide-screen Nokia 7710 smartphone includes a full Internet browser, an integrated music player, a camera with 2x digital zoom, and a FM radio. One of the nifty features of the Nokia 7710 smartphone is its ability to make weblogging mobile. Users can post pictures and text from the Nokia 7710 smartphone directly to the web through the ‘moblog’ client.

Nokia is also expected to introduce the Nokia 3230 smartphone in the first quarter of 2005. The Nokia 3230 smartphone features a video recorder and ‘Movie Director’ that will allow 1 hour of video to be captured.

Nokia is now increasingly looking at software licensing deals to help differentiate itself from its competitors. Nokia has recently signed licensing deals with Macromedia and RealNetworks. Nokia is also said to be working on handsets that will receive wireless television feeds.

Smartphone Investment Implications.

The increasing adoption of smartphones augurs well not only for Nokia but also for other smartphone manufacturers like palmOne (Nasdaq: PLMO) and Research In Motion (Nasdaq: RIMM). palmOne recently introduced the GSM edition of its Treo 650 smartphone. Research in Motion recently released the latest model in its BlackBerry 7100 series, the 7100g.

The incorporation of additional features and functionalities that make smartphones the portable information center and entertainment device of choice has bullish implications beyond just manufacturers of smartphones.

Wireless service providers like Vodafone (NYSE: VOD) should see their average revenue per user being buffeted with increasing use of value-added services that smartphones enable.

Then too, the increasing adoption and usage of smartphones will require the rollout of 3G wireless networks in earnest, translating into business opportunities for wireless network equipment providers such as Ericsson (Nasdaq: ERICY).

Sweepstakes are frequently used by fast-food restaurants to boost business. Fantastic Ipods to win at sweepstakes websites. 2 days ago a European online company has started with a online sweepstakes. Hot And Spicy Chick Peas (Vegetarian Recipe)

Posted on Sunday 24 August 2008

Makes 2 servings in 45 minutes
VEGETABLES / Asian (India) / Side Dish / Stove / No marinating

Much of the Indian population is vegetarian, and they enjoy the most extensive vegetable dishes in the world.
This is not only because of the predominant Hindu religion with its respect for all living creatures.
Also feeding 1 billion Indian people nowadays can be done much more efficiently by growing vegetables in stead of animals.
Last but not least: when a refrigerator is not available, it is much easier to use up small portions of vegetables, in stead of having to slaughter and store 1 big animal.

For vegetarian dishes, you will notice that each Indian region has distinct cooking techniques and flavoring principles to prepare them.

You have probably also noticed that there are many, many “curry”-recipes. Actually “Kari” is the Tamil (one of the many languages spoken in India) translation for the English word “sauce”. And “curry” is the western way of pronouncing this word.

Before coming to Malaysia, my simple western recipe for using chick peas was to add them in thick soups… Since Malaysia is the melting pot of all Asian cuisines, I notice that there are as much chick pea curry recipes as that there are people here.

Here is one of them: a home-cooked chick pea curry recipe from my Indian friend Ssussi. She uses a lot of fresh ingredients and her recipe takes a bit more of your time than expected for such a simple yet delicious dish.

INGREDIENTS

* 1 can of chick peas (15 1/2 Oz; 439 gr)
* 1 medium onion, finely chopped
* 1 teaspoon ginger, finely chopped
* 1 clove garlic, finely chopped
* 1 green chilly, finely chopped
* 2 medium well ripened tomatoes, seeded and chopped
* 1 tablespoon fresh coriander chopped
* 1 tablespoon lemon juice
* 10 g vegetable oil

* Spices:
- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric
- 1/2 tablespoon ground coriander
- 1 tea spoon “garam masala”
- salt to taste

PREPARATION

1. Drain chick peas, reserving the liquid.

2. Cook the onions, ginger garlic, chilies and turmeric in the vegetable oil until golden and softened.

3. Add the tomatoes and cook to soften, then add the ground coriander and chick peas.

4. Cook for 10 minutes, add the reserved liquid and cook a further 10 minutes.

5. Add “garam masala”, lemon juice and stir in the fresh coriander. Cook gently for 2-3 minutes, adding more liquid, if needed, to make a sauce.

Serve with “naan bread”, “chapati” or as a side dish.

Negotiating Tips On How To Sell Your Own Car

Posted on Sunday 24 August 2008

If you aren’t a car salesman by vocation, the whole process of how to sell your own car can be intimidating, but if you follow a few simple guidelines, almost anyone can do it and do just fine. Selling your own car is a wise move as you can often save several thousand dollars over just trading it in instead, as most people do. But you have to be prepared to show what your vehicle is worth and know how to get the price you want. Here are some negotiating tips on how to sell your own car quickly and easily:

* Before you even put your first ad out there, get to know exactly what your current vehicle is worth. This is very important as many buyers are going to try to convince you that your car is worth less than it really is, and that’s because they want the best deal possible. But if you have done your homework you will know what a fair price is and you won’t have to waste time on insufficient offers. So go to kbb.com and nadaguides.com and find out what they say your car’s “Market Value” is, not the trade-in vale. Market value is what you can expect to sell the car for on the open market as a straight sale. It’s also a good idea to print out these pages that list the car’s market value so you can show them as proof to prospective buyers. This validates your asking price.

* Another great way to build value in your vehicle is to run a Carfax report on it to show the vehicle history and offer outside proof that the odometer has not been tampered with and that it is has not been in a major wreck in the past where it was junked. It’s a good idea to also have a copy of this report to provide to each person who test drives the car. This will help the buyer feel more confident in buying your car and all of this available research shows that you know your car very well.

* If someone just wants to steal your car at a value that is ridiculously low, let them walk. Tell them that you have plenty of other people coming to look at the vehicle and them ask them where they got the idea that your car was not worth what you are asking? Obviously you will have proof that your car is worth what you say it is, so it puts you in the position of authority in the situation. You don’t have to lose money just because someone tells you that your car isn’t worth what your research tells you it is.

* If you have kept maintenance records for the car, it’s a good thing to make them available to show that you have been caring for it while you owned it. If you don’t have the records themselves, go back and get the receipts from the work you have done instead. All of this shows that you have not just been ignoring the vehicle’s maintenance and that can certainly build more confidence and more value in the vehicle in the minds of many buyers.

If you want to sell your own car, it’s not as difficult as you may think. Especially if you have done some advance work beforehand, you can bargain from a position of strength and quickly and easily sell your car for a nice profit.

How To Become A Powerful Affiliate Marketer In 10 Minutes

Posted on Wednesday 20 August 2008

Tip 1 - What Are Affiliate Programs? Welcome to the wide world of affiliate marketing! Affiliate marketing (sometimes called referral marketing) is based business people. So, what is an affiliate and what does he or she do? The affiliate marketer acts as a “middle man” between merchant and consumer, but without adding anything to the consumer’s cost. Affiliates do not mark up or resell products. Instead, the affiliate educates and directs the consumer to a product, and he receives a percentage of the sale in commission from the merchant. The affiliate acts as an independent lead generator for the merchant by bringing in new customers. This is a win-win situation for both the affiliate and the merchant. The affiliate can reap a full-time income marketing a whole suite of products that he does not own. He doesn’t pay for product creation, doesn’t have to ship anything and doesn’t deal with customer service issues or returns. The merchant benefits from the influx of new customers, the boatloads of cheap traffic and low cost advertising. Merchants get their product and their brand in front of thousands of potential buyers without paying a dime until someone makes a purchase. It is truly a pay for performance arrangement. Tip 2 - Choosing an Affiliate Program Before you begin your venture into affiliate marketing, it is necessary to choose the right program for you. There are almost as many programs out there as there are products! When you first start out, it’s easy to go overboard signing up to as many programs as possible, but this isn’t the right way to go about it. First, you need to decide on a area of particular interest to you. What products do you know the most about and think you could do the best job of selling? Once you identify your specialty, you begin by sorting through the available merchants and examine the structure of their affiliate programs. Key areas to investigate: 1. When and how do you get paid? Find out whether the program pays you weekly, bi-monthly, monthly, etc. Most programs have a minimum payout amount, meaning that you don’t receive your commissions until hitting a minimum number of sales for the pay period. You’ll also want to find out whether the programs pays you via check, direct deposit, Pay Pal or any combination of the three. With our PushButtonHealthGuide.com, we are linked to clickbank.com, you will be rest assured that you will be paid accordingly twice a month. 2. How much do you make per sale? Remember you’ll be investing your own money into advertising and other expenses to promote these programs. Therefore, you should seek programs which reward their affiliates well. You’ll also want to seek out high-value products. A fifty to sixty percent commission on a $100 product is very good, but it’s not so hot if you’re promoting a $15 product. At the time of writing, we offer 75% of commission to our affiliate, which is the highest by the industry standard. 3. Is the program managed well? Is this a reputable company? Larger companies usually have “affiliate managers” devoted to maintaining contact with their affiliates. Even if you go with a smaller outfit, they should at least offer clear contact information. You might want to try e-mailing them at their contact address to see how fast they respond to you. Mismanaged programs are, at best, a sign of disorganization and, at worst, could indicate a company in trouble. The last thing you want is to be sitting on a grand worth of hard earned commissions and see the merchant go out of business before paying you. Keeping these factors in mind, here are some great places to seek out products you can promote: www.clickbank.com <http://www.clickbank.com> (pushbuttonhealthguide.com uses) www.cj.com www.linkshare.com Commission Junction (CJ) and Linkshare provide affiliate hubs for major brand corporations and mid-sized businesses. Their focus is generally on tangible products and services. Clickbank is the leading source online for affiliates of information products like e-books, software and membership sites. Tip 3 - Five Approaches to Affiliate Marketing As a new affiliate, one of the first things you’ll want to know where and how to promote your affiliate link. Today we’ll cover several options and discuss the merits of each method. 1. Direct Links via PPC Advertising If you use PPC advertising, you can embed your affiliate to the ad and send the prospect directly to the merchant’s site. This is a really lazy to do things, though. You might make a few sales, but it’s far better to approach the process as outlined in tactic 2. Linking to Your Site via PPC Advertising Place ads for your target keywords and direct the prospects to greet them with an invitation to subscribe to your newsletter. Once you’ve collected a prospect’s email address, they are yours to market to on a repeat basis. 3. Build Content Focused Sites This approach aims for long term traffic through search engine optimization. You’ll need to publish content related to the type of product you’re trying to sell. Searchers will be drawn in by informative articles. You’re affiliate links will be sprinkled discreetly across the site. 4. Advertise in E-Zines This is a good method to use if you can find targeted lists for your product. E-zine ads can be purchased in most cases, and in other cases you can snatch them up for free by bartering with the list owner. 5. Purchase text link or banner advertising on high traffic sites. This type of advertising isn’t quite as popular as it used to be. It is most effective when you can find high traffic sites for smaller niche subjects. These sites tend to focus heavily on content and run only a handful of ads on site. Space is limited and rates are likely to be at a premium. Tip 4 - Beating the Odds This will be a cold, hard dose of truth, but you need to know the facts. The majority of people who go into affiliate marketing fail to break even. Some people will earn thousands in this business, while others will struggle to generate even a few hundred in sales per month. Affiliate marketing is very competitive and cut-throat. You’ve got to stay on your toes to win in this game. While I can’t guarantee your success, I can provide you with some fundamental knowledge that just might help you beat the odds. Get ready to learn how to play hardball with the super affiliates. #1: Never Stop Searching for Profitable Keywords Successful affiliates are never satisfied with the status quo. Even if you endured hours sweat producing research to find your target keywords, keep on searching out new ones and adding them to your list. #2: Become Obsessed with Testing and Tracking If you aren’t testing and tracking absolutely everything - and I mean everything from your keywords, your ppc ads, your web site copy and any thing else you can think of to test/track, the odds are stacked against you. Successful affiliates are maniacal about testing and tracking every detail of their campaigns. They are details oriented and use all of their collected data to refine their entire system on a day to day basis. #3: Innovate and Update Constantly Keep your approach fresh by testing new conversion tactics. If you rely on PPC engines for advertising, start throwing in e-zine advertising into the mix. If that doesn’t produce the desired results, investigate banner ads, classified ads, message boards, offline media and anything else you can think of to get your message across. Don’t rely on one conversion channel. If you send your prospects direct to the merchant, change up your campaign and start sending leads to your own web site and start collecting email addresses. Experiment with your content and your web copy. Try out different link headlines. Never settle for the familiar. Tweak everything until you’ve squeezed the maximum conversion power out of it. #4: Pay Attention to the Industry and Communicate with Other Affiliates The world of affiliate marketing changes every day. There is always a new tactic to implement, a change in the rules at one advertising service or another, a serious technology failure at one of your merchant’s sites and so on. Even though affiliate marketers are rabidly competitive group, they are also quite helpful and willing to trade information and tips with one another. You should bookmark the following sites and make a point of visiting them weekly if not daily: http://www.associateprograms.com/ http://www.webmasterworld.com/ http://www.sitepoint.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=6 http://www.affiliatesdirectory.com/ Tip 5 - The Importance of Building a List Out of all the possible approaches to affiliate marketing, lead capture and list building represents the smartest and most effective option. Why? A lost visitor is a lost sale. A lost visitor is the loss of potential repeat sales. Think of it this way: you’re putting time and money into your advertising. If you aren’t capturing your visitor’s email addresses, you’re basically throwing all of that traffic right down the drain. When you capture your visitors to your list, you open a whole new world of profit opportunities - not just for the short term, but for the long term as well. The Benefits of List Marketing • You can educate your prospects. This will increase your conversion rate by giving you the opportunity to turn hesitant prospects into enthusiastic customers. • You can market to your prospects over and over again. Your long term profit potential exists in repeat sales. Never work for “just one sale”. • You can double your return on investment while lowering your advertising costs. Once you’ve got a list in place, you don’t have to limit your offerings to just affiliate product. You can bring in any additional, related products of interest to your list and make sales immediately without going through the same advertising process all over again. Can you see the benefits yet? Why spend money over and over again sending people to the same page and “hoping for a sale”, when you can capture them to your list and have full control over the conversion process? Any other approach leaves you at the mercy of the merchant’s web copy and the customer’s mindset at first contact. You’ve got to lure your prospects in and expose them your message multiple times. This will save you so much time and money you’ll wonder why you ever did it any other way. Tip 6 - Advanced Topics We’ve come to the last day of the course, and it’s time to tie up the loose ends and cover some advanced topics. As you know by now, affiliate marketing can be incredibly rewarding when done properly. There are also a lot of pitfalls you need to watch out for as well. One of these is merchant fraud. Merchant fraud, unfortunately, does happen. Merchants can use any number of clever tactics to cheat you out of your commission. One of these methods is to offer multiple payment options to customers without linking each one to their affiliate tracking software. For example, let’s say that a merchant offers credit payments, payment via Paypal and payment via check to the customer. The merchant tracks your affiliate ID up to the point of sale and credits you if the customer chooses to pay via credit card through the merchant’s main payment gateway. However, if the customer chooses Paypal or check, your affiliate ID is immediately tossed. The only way around this clever trick is an exercise of caution on your part. When you evaluate a potential affiliate program, check to see how many payment methods the merchant offers. Secondly, after you sign up for an account, examine you referral links. In fact, if you have the budget to spare, follow your own link and choose one of the alternate payment options and purchase a product. Did you get credit for that sale? Great! If you didn’t receive credit, though, it’s time to can that merchant and move on to more ethical waters. Here’s another ‘advanced’ tip to consider: use affiliate networks like Commission Junction to evaluate potential merchants. Joining programs via a network is often a better choice than signing up at individual, non-networked sites. The reason is simple: membership in an affiliate network imposes stricter standards on merchant behavior. You also have access to a wealth of data on the overall performance of other affiliates in that merchant’s program. Last but not least, you need to focus on building trust among potential customers. If your merchant site doesn’t do a very good job of this, then send your visitors to your web site. Make it clear what products and/or information you have to offer. Also, be vigilant about posting your contact information in a prominent place. Anonymity might be fun in a chat room, but it turns off consumers very quickly. For an extra advantage, consider having your site evaluated “net cop” programs like the one at http://www.i-cop.org/, and get your site listed in the online section of the Better Business Bureau’s web site. Tip 7 - Let’s Work On it! Now you are fully equipped, let’s do some work today and rake in profits together!

Promoting Your Online Home Based Business

Posted on Tuesday 19 August 2008

You may have heard so many so-called “online marketing gurus” preaching as if everything in online business depended on traffic to your website. This could have been true if online business just meant trying to sell something over the Internet. It would also be a valid argument if there were not home based business systems on the market that would send qualified customers to your site. Furthermore, if this were true, how on earth would your home based online business really make money if your site were an auction site? Well, then what does it mean to promote your home based business online? The truth is that online business principles are not hugely different from those followed by conventional businesses. You can’t disconnect online business from the realities of the market, as you are still selling to real people.

Promoting Your Online Business

Promoting an online home based business calls for 3 things: increasing traffic to your website, selling goods/services that are worth the money and retaining/adding to your customer base. Increasing Traffic: Increasing traffic to your site will help with your overall website visibility. That is, it will get your site in front of more people and increase your chances of making a sale.

Though increasing traffic is not the only thing that you should do to promote your online home based business, here are 4 tips that can help you make it happen:

1. Optimize for the top 5-6 search engines. This involves several steps such as getting the right metatags, content and keywords placed strategically all over your website. You should know by now that most of the traffic for both new and well-known sites is generated by search engines.

2. Build link and content exchanges so that they generate organic traffic and link popularity with search engines. Certain search engines count these inbound links for ranking.

3. Use e-zines, blogs and forums to popularize your sites. Make sure to make a posting with a link to your home page. This is a very powerful tool. Readers can follow the links into your site, which helps with your site promotion efforts, and also helps to increase link popularity. E-zine articles have the advantage of getting picked up and published in numerous sites.

4. Text advertisements are triggered by your keywords in search engine results pages. These PPC ads are worth trying as you only pay per click. This way, your online home based business receives relevant, target traffic.

Worth the Money

You can’t ignore this, as customers really want to substitute offline buying with online buying. What sells offline must work online as well. Visitors to your website are motivated to buy for all the same reasons that they would offline, with the added plus of convenience. Reliability, quality and low cost are the 3 mantras that drive them to opt for the convenience of Internet purchasing. On the other hand, the site design should be convince the visitor to click through and take action.

A good design and pages such as privacy policy, about us, contact us and feedback/complaint are a must. In addition, logos from security agencies like Verisign® and a 24/7 helpline will help increase your credibility and put your visitors at ease about their purchases. Don’t forget to add a FAQ page where you should answer any questions.

As with any home based Internet business, you need to include after-sales service and warranties. In one word, it is trustworthiness that will win over visitors to your website. What if your online business is e-zine where you just publish free articles? It is the trustworthiness created by solid, no frills content. A slight modification of this will apply for auction businesses as well.

Customer Base

As with a brick-and-mortar business (minus the headaches of a conventional business), adopt what conventional businesses do to retain/expand your customer base. A good experience in your website, quality freebies or money back guarantees will work in your favor.

The trick to making your online home based business succeed lies in motivating your visitors to make a purchase, rather than have them just be “tire kickers”. Good Internet businesses that satisfy their visitors usually gain new sales through word of mouth advertising, testimonials and referrals.

Self Catering Vacation Rentals vs. Hotel

Posted on Sunday 17 August 2008

Our vacation rentals allow you the flexibility to plan your day the way you want. Eat when you are hungry, swim when you feel like taking a dip, or simply relax without feeling that you are interrupting the rest of your family’s plans. Often times the expenses of eating out can far exceed the daily expenses of lodging on a vacation. With full kitchens, these expenses are greatly reduced in a vacation rental even if you only use the kitchen for breakfasts, drinks and snacks. Guests of Villa Brigitte vacation rentals come to enjoy nearby Sosua and Cabarete Beach. With excellent daytime adventures and plentiful nightlife options, its surrounding towns make for a great summer getaway.

There are some things that can’t be compromised. A sense of privacy is one of the main reasons vacation rentals are so much gaining in popularity. In a hotel you will hear the comings and goings of those around you. Often times even in the best of resorts, it is difficult to escape the sounds of water pipes and shutting doors. We provide your own sanctuary away from the crowd. Choose to take a moonlit swim in the pool, or enjoy the sunrise while you lounge with a cup of coffee on your private terrace. In a simple hotel room the concept of privacy is never the same feeling as in vacation home.

There is no comparison between the two. The old saying applies “it’s like trying to compare apples to oranges”. Our vacation villas, beach houses and apartments offer more room, more freedom, more flexibility, more amenities, and much more privacy for your money. Our Caribbean vacation homes are offering a wide range of Caribbean rentals to suit your needs - from romantic getaways for two, to family vacation rental homes for all to enjoy. www.sosuarentals.com
