Multitabling Tournaments & Cash Games

Posted on Wednesday 17 February 2010

When I am feeling most in tune with my poker ability, I usually like to play multiple tables at once. It can seem most fluid in this motion to play tables of a similar nature, i.e. all $1/$2 no limit hold em tables, so as to avoid confusion, but at other times a little variety can keep a slow night on its toes.

I have actually found over the long haul of trying different multitabling combinations that I do the best when I allow myself a mix of different kinds of games, particularly when I run cash game tables at the same as long haul poker tournaments. Because I can distract myself in slow periods of the tournament by the hand to hand action of a cash table, I find that I am even more disciplined and careful with my tournament play, limiting myself to only the range of hands I really need to be involved in early on.

In this way a large field can narrow itself down to a small one while I continue to grow my stack and also continue to make moves on the cash game table. It is a marriage of the best of both of these worlds. Remember this when you play poker online.
